We recently went to Colorado Springs, CO.  We drove to the top of Pike’s Peak.  It has an elevation of 14,110 feet.  We stopped at many places to hike.  It was kind of cold.  If fact, it was so cold that Alex threw a snowball at me.  Some skiers also hitchhiked a ride with us.  We also learned that in the olden days pioneers who were climbing Pike’s Peak painted on their wagons, “Pike’s Peak or bust.”  Pioneers who gave up in settling on Pike’s Peak painted on their wagons, “Busted by Gosh.”

Later, Alex and I were hanging out at our cabin.  The cabins are cool. We have a thing called the Whisper Lite for cooking things on.  Well, I said something to piss Alex and he chased me with a rock and accidentally threw it at the Whisper Lite ….It broke.

Today, we went on a Gold Mine tour.  It was really deep underground.  We took a really crowded elevator like thing down.  It was really cold and dark underground.  We learned about how in order to find out what caves have gold, they look for purple veins of ore in the rock.

Later, we went to Florissant National Monument.  There were lots of petrified redwood tree stumps everywhere.  I learned about how there used to be so many that wagons could not get through so they let people take tons of fossils until they were almost all gone.

rustica

Later, we went to Pizza Rustica.   We had some amazing pizza, and a lemon sorbet served in a real lemon.

Today, went to a Buffalo Ghosts program.  We learned about how people actually shot buffaloes just for their tongues, and left the whole body on the ground.

Later we went to the Dinosaur Resource Center.  There were many dinosaur bones everywhere.  I learned that they make casts of all the bones because the real ones are too fragile to build dinosaurs with.  We also went to a quarry where we searched for fossils of plants and insects.  We found many leaf fossils.  If the fossil is hidden between layers of shale, then you carefully remove layers with a razor blade.
