Holes by: Louis Sachar
I read a book called Holes for my summer reading list. It was a really easy read, I read it in one night.
It is more plot then character development, but it does have a nice plot. Stanley Yelnats (by the way his last name is his first backwards,) has no luck. The bad luck has followed his family since his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather.
Stanley is sent to Camp Green Lake, a place where Juvenile Delinquents are sent to dig 5 x 5 holes all day. There is no lake at Camp Green Lake just miles and miles of hot, dry, deserted, nothingness. Of course Stanley is sent for something that he didn’t do because of the bad luck. Stanley starts to notice that they aren’t just digging to improve their character but they are looking for something.
Stanley makes new friends, builds new muscles, and discovers more about Camp Green Lakes past!
